Steve Bernat - Lay Pastor Steve Bernat has served at Calvary Tucson since 1995, and is a youth pastor in the Jr. High ministry as well as a keyboard player in the worship ministry. Steve was born and raised in Tucson with his five brothers. His parents got divorced when Steve was 10, and his mother raised her six sons as a single parent. As a child, Steve attended a Jewish school through 8th grade, was baptized Catholic and attended catechism, and spent several years at the Christian Science and Unitarian churches. Steve attended the University of Arizona, where he was introduced to the Mormon Church and became a member. While with the Mormons, a born-again Christian friend started telling him what the bible has to say about God. Steve began reading the bible and quickly found the foundation that he always felt he’d been missing, despite his exposure to so many different religions. It was then that he established a personal relationship with God by accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior. Steve counts it a blessing and privilege to serve in ministry alongside the staff at Calvary Tucson and to be part of such a loving church body. He takes special joy in spending time with the kids in Calvary’s Jr. High ministry, and feels blessed each time he gets to participate in the work that God does there.
After college, Steve went to work for Merrill Lynch as a stockbroker. He left the financial industry after a few years to start a software technology company, which is where he has spent his career life since. He lives in Vail, AZ with his wife Leanne.
