Peter Lopez

Peter Lopez- Intern Pastor

Peter was raised in a Christian home, and always seemed to be in a Christian environment, yet he was a young teen who had never made a personal commitment to follow Christ. When he was 14 years-old, his parents forced him to attend a Calvary Chapel Christian camp in the San Bernardino Mountains. Peter's mother remembers how strongly she felt about the decision, "I would see other young people who were living for the Lord and I knew that was the life I desired for my children; I just knew, by the Spirit, that Peter would come back from that camp a different young man." Peter did not share his mom's hopes or expectations about going to Christian camp, but he had no choice, so off he went. Thinking back on it now, Peter remembers meeting other young people the first day of camp and feeling as if he'd known them for years. He didn't realize it then, but it was God's love pouring out of others around him that felt so warm and familiar. One night at camp, he heard an analogy tied into scripture about a father giving his only son. It was the message of the gospel explaining what God had done for us, what God had done for Peter. As he raised his hand and accepted Jesus as his personal savior, he remembers feeling white as snow, and as clean as he could possibly feel! He had become a new creation in Christ.

After that, Peter returned home to Calvary Tucson and got involved with the youth group and various missions trips.  Throughout his years at Tucson High School, God gave Peter opportunities to use his gift of teaching, and in the summer of 2008, he was asked to join the Calvary Tucson staff as an intern pastor. Today, Peter oversees the Identity Junior High Youth Ministry on Calvary Tucson's West Campus, organizes missions trips, teaches at local public schools, and runs the west campus coffee shop. He also attends school part-time and works at Starbucks part-time.

Peter is blessed to be part of a big, loving family which includes 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He is extremely grateful that his parents always made whatever sacrifices were necessary to give him opportunities to be involved in church and ultimately, come to know Christ. In the little spare time he has, Peter loves to travel! He has been to many cities in the U.S. and has traveld internationaly to Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Austria, Germany, England, France, Bosnia, Croatia, Czech Republic, India and has plans to travel even more to share the love of Jesus.
