Lisa Furrow-Women's Ministry & Practical Christian Living Foundation

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Lisa’s father’s military career brought her family to Pinner, England where she spent her early childhood. After the tour was over, she was relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she lived with her mother and sister. Feeling very out of place in her new homeland Lisa quickly lost her British accent due to the constant requests of her classmates to “say something!”

The tumultuous teen years left Lisa with a profound sense of “lost-ness.” When she was 17 she told her mom that she needed to be clean and forgiven of her sins. Though her mother told her she had been baptized in the Mormon church when she was 8 years-old, Lisa knew that was not the answer, and something else was missing.

After graduating high school, she took a job near her father in Zion National Park, Utah, as a housekeeper in their guest cabins. During this time, Lisa felt overwhelmed with spiritual turmoil and ran into the woods to cry out to God to show her if HE was real. Shortly after that while Lisa was sitting in the park at Zion with a circle of friends, a girl came to join them. Joni had a bible in her hand and a countenance that shined! Lisa asked her, “what do you have that I don’t have?” she said “Jesus.” Lisa said, “How do I get Him!” Lisa asked Jesus into her heart that day, though she did not understand what that really meant.

A few days later, while trying to go to sleep, Lisa experienced something she will never forget. The window to her room blew open and she heard and felt a growling come toward her from the bottom if her bed. Paralyzed by fear, she remembered hearing that demons tremble at the name of Jesus. She tried to utter His name, but the thought was impressed on her mind that she had to have the Son to have that authority…and she knew she did not have the Son.

She ran upstairs to Joni’s room. Joni and her roommate Linda, also a Christian, took Lisa to a small room where they prayed for her. Then Linda looked up and said “now ask Jesus into your heart. We are here as witnesses that you have done that.” Without verbally speaking a word, Lisa asked Jesus to come into her life and save her.  Light flooded the room and Lisa’s soul! She immediately experienced the truth of 2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new.”

After she returned to Albuquerque, Lisa searched for a church. That’s where she met Robert. They were married 1 year and a half later and began attending Calvary Chapel Albuquerque. They sensed God’s call to move to Tucson and begin a Bible study in 1985…and Calvary Tucson began.

Lisa and Robert live in Tucson and have three children, Jess, David and Chris...and one granddaughter, Emma born to their daughter Jess and son-in-law Adam.
